Goat Performance Recording
The Breeding Services of the Slovak Republic, state enterprise carry out goat performance recording through their regional offices in breeding, multiplication and production herds with the aim of objectively determining and evaluating the performance traits of individual animals, flocks and herds.
In the course of goat performance recording, the following are determined
- number of kids born
- milk performance (amount of milk milked per standardised lactation and content of milk components – fat, protein, lactose)
- reproductive indicators (% fertilisation, % fertility and % fertility per kidded doe)
Performance recording itself involves selecting kids for reproduction, identification and subjective assessment.
What do you gain from performance recording?
- Level I goat performance recording gives the breeder the ability to make informed decisions and implement effective measures in the herd
- ability to monitor and select individuals from multiple-birth litters in mothers and fathers and from mothers with high milk production
- improvement of the herd in terms of the number of quality animals and increasing performance
- rapid return on costs incurred for performance recording
